Set in a semi-industrial area in the north of Amsterdam, De Ceuvel is an unusual place. Polluted plot turning into a sustainable ‘urban oasis’ after a group of people was given the opportunity by the municipality to use the land. Biggest eye-catcher are the old houseboats placed on the land, connected by a beautiful boardwalk. They now serve as offices for several creative and social enterprises.
Café de Ceuvel is a bar/restaurant on the site, build out of reused materials, with a big terrace adjoining an old industrial channel. They grow numerous herbs and other plants which they use in the kitchen. All food is vegetarian with many vegan options. They’ve got a menu with a few permanent items (like the Dutch Weed Burger). But also a daily changing ‘Dumpster Dish’ (made with saved or recycled veggies) and a special ‘Farm to Table’ menu which changes every two weeks (current one can be found on their Facebook site). A few vegan raw pies are available as well. And try their home-made lemonade!
