Vegan Sushi Bar started by David and Veronica, a couple who are both vegan and have a background in business. Originally they wanted to start their own coffeeplace in Amsterdam, but after a trip to the US they changed their minds! Both in LA and New York City they visited some great vegan sushi places and loved it so much they wanted to start one themselves. Then in just four months time they started Vegan Sushi Bar. Their motto: ‘the only thing we take out of the ocean is plastic!’ (and seaweed of course).
The eyecatcher on the menu are their ‘signature rolls’, filled with lots of mouthwatering ingredients, including vegan shrimp, vegan crab and vegan salmon! And then they also have gunkan sushi (piece on the side with a higher topping) and the more basic sushi maki. Interesting variation: instead of normal white sushi rice, they use black rice, for aesthetic as well as nutritional reasons.
Side dishes include sashimi, gyoza and tempura. And for desserts there’s mochi (gummy Japanese rice cake) and cupcakes.
Not too many tables so reserving is recommended. Also available for delivery. Vegan Sushi Bar is located at Kinkerstraat, tram stop very closeby. By the way – in this area (Oud-West) a lot of vegan places are located!
