Vegan neighbourhood restaurant located in a charming space at Entrepotdok. All food is organic and glutenfree as well.

Switch to vegan

Bloem started in 2006 originally as a simple restaurant, serving meat and fish as well. Throughout the years they developed in a more organic and sustainable direction, with more and more vegetarian dishes on the menu.

Daniel Hutchinson started in the early days as restaurant manager, but by now is the owner and head chef of Bloem. After corona slowed down beginning 2022 he decided to no longer use animal products in his kitchen. “We switched to a fully vegan menu because we believe it is more fitting within these times and it’s also better for the world. But what we especially are trying to do is to show to people who are usually not eating vegan, that vegan food can also be very delicious.”

All homemade

On most days Bloem is open from lunchtime. On the lunch menu they offer sandwiches as well as salads, using homemade components like kimchi, shiitake pate, falafel, cashew cream, combined with various vegetables and greens. At Bloem all food is homemade and healthy, based on whole foods. They even bake their own glutenfree bread!

The dinner menu is divided into starters, mains, desserts and salads. The main dishes consist of various components creating a colourful and varied plate. For example grilled eggplant with tomato sauce, comes with portobello and wild and black rice, lentils with cashews and dates, cauliflower, kimchi and tzatziki! Personally I don’t get excited from any stuffed vegetable on a menu but it fits within the style of this restaurant. The desserts range from crème brûlée, to pralines and pies. The dishes on the menu change on an irregular base.

Also worth mentioning is the drinks menu, with for example homemade fizzy lemonades, masala chai, kombuchas and glutenfree beers. Nice to find even beers from small Brussels based brewery Brasserie de la Senne on the menu.

Canalside terrace

Inside there is seating on the ground floor and the cosy low ceiling first floor. Outside they have additional tables at the terrace next to the canal!

Bloem is located at Entrepotdok, right after the pedestrian / bicycle bridge if you come from the direction of Plantage Kerklaan. Tram 14 stops nearby at Plantage Middenlaan.
