All vegan bakery in Amstelveen offering sourdough bread, croissants, pain au chocolat, focaccia, cakes and more!
Artisanal
Having worked at various bread and pastry bakeries from early age on, Ben Bachrach started his own sourdough bakery in 2022. Initially out of his own living room! Learned to bake the artisanal way, his motivation is to go back to the basics, using only natural ingredients. With organic flour from a mill nearby, everything homemade and everything vegan!
When Ben was looking to expand his business he initially started to sell his breads on various markets in Amstelveen and Amsterdam. With help of his father and sister, so Urban Bakers became a real family business!
The ultimate dream however was to have a bakery location where people can not only buy the bread but also sit down and enjoy. They finally found the perfect spot in a small shopping centre in Amstelveen North, while the production bakery remains at a different location. Here they opened July 2024.
Fun fact: their logo is based on an anime image! Reflecting their ‘rebellious’ character, in the way they do stuff just a little bit different compared to other bakeries.
Focaccia ‘Heartbeet’
Everything on the menu and what they sell is vegan. Of course various sourdough breads. But also baguettes, focaccia, glutenfree bread, viennoiserie like croissant and pain au chocolat. Other sweet stuff they have are four different cakes (apple, lemon, chocolate and carrot) and chocolate-nut bars. They also sell various seasonal marmelades made by Ben’s father Erik.
On the sit down menu they have breakfast options like a croissant with fruit jam, or yogurt with granola. For lunch they have various sandwiches, stuffed focaccia (for example the ‘Heartbeet’ with vegan feta, pickled beetroot and sunflower seeds) or soup.
In the future they would like to offer more pastry options and more lunch sandwiches!
